THE ALBUM

Joined by a stellar group of improvisers and music production wizards, the music of DOS is instrumental and cinematic in nature, rooted in the jazz tradition, and consisting of influences spanning indie rock, electronic music, ambient, and classical musics. It is patient, evolving, melodic, and curious.

It consists of seven songs written by Steve during a season of his and his family’s move from Boston to Nashville, being a season of change and with a spirit of adventure and hope. It was ultimately finished over the course of five years, with the help of engineer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Jon Estes.

Steve Pardo performs on woodwinds, guitars, keys, synths, and FX, and features Mike Baggetta on electric guitar and FX, Jon Estes on guitars and bass, and Brian Fitch on drums. Special guests include Liz Estes on violin, and Amy Pardo on flute. DOS was mastered by John McLaggan at Parachute Mastering.

THE GAME

The game was an idea Steve had when considering how best to release and present the music to a wider audience. It is a single-player, beat-based platformer with a bit of puzzle solving, adventure game mechanics, and subtle narrative. Every song on the album is presented as a level of the game. It is simple enough for anyone to pick up and play, with just a touch of reactive challenges along the way.

It is the first game to be released by the indie game development studio The Pardo Brothers, which was co-founded by Steve and Jonathan Pardo in 2019. The game was developed entirely by Steve Pardo, with support of friends and family along the way for testing, QA, and technical support.

DOS is available for Mac, PC, iPhone, and iPad.

NOW AVAILABLE

So is it a game or an album?

It’s both!

For the full experience, you can purchase the game or purchase the physical album (vinyl or CD). In every case you will automatically get both the game and a digital download of the album!

How can I purchase the full version of DOS?

Also streaming on:

If I purchase on the App Store, can I play the game on my Mac and/or Apple Vision Pro?

Technically? Those versions might work fine but they are not the optimal way to play, as they are simply the iPad version ported over (thank you, Apple). If you’d like to play on the Mac, we recommend purchasing the game on Steam. And if you are curious about the Apple Vision Pro version, it is … novel … just don’t leave any reviews.

Who’s this “Steve Pardo”?
